[i]cuddlycthulhu: Writing: Well, when you put it like that...

Them: And how do you know what eyes are made from? ick.
Me: The powers of Google! And I write horror. It goes with the territory. *grin*
Them: That's true. You write horror. I can describe an orgasm in 100 different ways. You know what eyes are made from.
Ne: ...Well when you put it like that I think you win.
Them: Yep. I usually do win.

[i]aldehyde: [077] friends cut

i've had to trim my flist due to its size. this applies to you if you can no longer see this post.

it's nothing personal; i just got tired of having to go through skip=1,000 every time i left my flist unread for more than a day. i've deleted people with whom i have very little in common these days, those that never comment on my entries, and empty journals. 99% of my posts are unlocked, so feel free to keep me friended if you're here for the recs, linkspam and other updates.

IF YOU THINK YOU'VE BEEN DEFRIENDED BY MISTAKE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! especially if we have each other on twitter, or recently met via a friending meme. comments are screened ♥

[i]aldehyde: [076] I'M KANYE WEST, BITCH.

guiiiiiise!

check out my pretty nails! i'm wearing "iris i was thinner" from the sephora by opi line, and i loveeees it. this is what it looks like with two topcoats, no basecoat, and no flash:

iris i was thinner )

btw i don't think i've mentioned my current fave crack ship here, have i? i know i've talked about it a bunch of times on twitter and gchat, but for those of you who are in the dark, I AM SHIPPING JOE JONAS/KANYE WEST SO BAD RIGHT NOW, LAWL. it started off b/c i was listening to my kanye playlists while submitting prompts at the being attractive and doing stuff challenge, and then i thought "hey! this would be kinda nifty!" so i asked for a fic where:
joe and kanyeezy meet up at some post-VMAs party. kanye compliments joe's outfit, joe compliments kanye on interrupting taylor. THEY MAKE OUT.
sadly, no one filled my prompt but it makes sense, okay? i mean, joe and kanye both wear ridiculous things, kanye would totes text joe with his own lyrics in allcaps [I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S BETTER. GETTIN' LAID OR GETTIN' PAID?], and they'd make some kickass music together too.

as inspiration, i even made this humorous manip. i know, joe jonas looks pretty hot in amber rose's revealing outfit.

then [info]sourberrie was awesome enough to make this wicked fanmix, and we decided we really oughta write some SRS fic about this ship. b/c it'd be wicked cool if we could make it believable. i was contemplating calling the ship jonye or kanyoe but thanks to [info]inthenameofjuc, it's now known as JoKa, mwehehe.

AND THAT IS MY COOL STORY BRO MOMENT OF THE DAY.

in related news, i watched my first ever JB livechat today. it was funny, but i wish joe'd stuck around for more than 5 mins. ugh, he looked so good. kevin was a sweetheart, and nick was a little bitch. seriously, he was such a douchebag, lol. the way he transformed when joe dropped by was amazing though; it's like he was a completely different person. COULD YOU SHIP EACH OTHER ANY HARDER, BOYS? no, i think not.

before i end this post, i'd like to mention that i'm reccing at [info]sawedoff_recs tomorrow so keep an eye out for that. [UGH, I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SHOW TO RETURN, GDI!]

[i]cuddlycthulhu: Morning Crazy: Oh! OH! IT'S THE POLICE!

I think that, even among the less disclosing members of my friends list, just about all of us like sex to some degree. Some like it just fine, some like it a lot, and others are particularly enthusiastic to the point of having to apologize in advance to their housemates upon moving in. *pointed look at certain ex-hausmates*

True story: Back in the days of the Marshmellow Circus Peanut Haus (or just Circus for short), one of my housemates was enjoying some alone time with her then boyfriend. Said housemate was, self-admittedly, "a screamer" and that day was no different. Only this time, due to it being a nice summer Saturday day, she'd left the bedroom windows open.

Now Circus by that point had been around at least ten years and our neighbors were very familiar with the particular antics of the inmates who called the Circus home. A healthy stream of free wifi from [info]surlyone and occasional bribes of booze, along with invites to our parties, kept the goodwill flowing between most of our neighbors and so it was in that spirit of familiarity, upon hearing my housemate enjoying herself, one of our neighbors shouted, "Stop! Stop! You're killing her!"

Thankfully, the only deaths going on were of the Shakesperean "little death" variety but it appears that if a police officer had decided to stop by to investigate he wouldn't have needed a warrant to enter the premises and anything he found would be admissible in court.

So, just remember, it doesn't matter if you and your partner come to the door starkers having stopped in the middle of what you'd been doing to tell the police that those were "happy screams", the man doesn't care.

GOOD MORNING!

[i]zenten posting in [i]linux: Need help setting up a virtual "KM switch"

I have a bit of an odd setup right now, and I want to make the most out of my equipment.

I have an iMac running OS 10.4.11 with one video out display. I have two extra external monitors. And I have an Ubuntu box running StumpWM (it's an older machine) as the "window" manager.

What I would like to do is have one monitor plugged into the iMac (I already have that part actually), and the other one plugged into the Ubuntu box. I would like to have a way to then control the Ubuntu box using the same keyboard and mouse that are plugged into the iMac, but have the display show up on the monitor plugged into the Ubuntu box. I don't want to go buying any extra equipment to do this.

Does anyone have some suggestions on how I might go about this?

[i]vace117 posting in [i]linux: Running multiple X sessions with Karmic

I have recently bought a new computer and installed Karmic on it. Within 10 minutes after the install I was faced with the burning question: "wtf did they do to GDM?!".

It looks like GDM was rewritten to take advantage of xsplash, Ubuntu's new X based boot, while losing every single useful configuration option. The reason this is important to me (aside from the annoyance of not being able to change the GDM theme), is b/c I used to run 2 GDM managed X sessions when I was running Ibex. One X session was using xorg.conf, configured for my dual monitor setup, and the other X session using xorg.conf.projector, configured to use a monitor and a projector. This way I was able to easily switch between the two modes by simply pressing Alt-F9/F7 keys.

Now that GDM can no longer manage multiple X sessions, I need to find a new way to do this. I realize that my approach of messing around with xorg.conf files might be outdated. I come from Slackware background, so I am usually much more likely to mess with config files rather than figure out GUI tools. This brings me to my question. Can anyone suggest some other ways to achieve similar functionality?

It is not that important that both X sessions are running all the time, which means that a solution which simply starts another X session with specific graphics configuration might be preferable.

So far I tried the following:
HIGHEST_USED_DISPLAY=`ls -al /tmp/.X* | tail -1 | awk -F 'X' '{print $2}'`
let AVAILABLE_DISPLAY=($HIGHEST_USED_DISPLAY+1)
su - valprj -c "startx -- :$AVAILABLE_DISPLAY -config xorg.conf.projector"

This looked like the perfect solution at first, but then I noticed that the computer would freeze (just input devices and graphics) all too often when switching between the X sessions. I haven't tried it w/o GDM yet.

So, can anyone recommend a different approach? btw, I am using proprietary NVIDIA drivers. Maybe there is something in NVIDIA tools that can help me?

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

[i]cuddlycthulhu: Morning Crazy thinks it's time for you to stop baking...

I've heard the term "bun in the oven" but this is just going way too far I think.

Thankfully, said oven wasn't on at the time and the baby was fine. Check out that mug shot photo, he still looks stoned.

[i]cuddlycthulhu: Note about Morning Crazy and other links people send me

I appreciate that you guys send me stuff because, sometimes, the stuff I find is simply boring and a number of really great links I've listed have come from the people I know. It show that people like what I do, want me to continue it, and enthusiasm in the project.

However, please let me make a request, whether it's for Morning Crazy or not: please let me know IN ADVANCE if the thing you are submitting is SFW or not. This will save me potentially "interest" conversations with Parent Company's Information Security (their more extreme sounding IT department) Department after I've clicked your link.

Thanks.

I heard a rumor that twinkle is dead (ie that nobody is working the project anymore). is that true, does anyone know?

If so, can anyone recommend a good linux softphone that is being updated?

[i]aldehyde: [075] you're smokin' all my stash, but burnin' all my cash..

ohhhh i had an AWESOME day. theredhandthe bf is actually in town for the next 4 weeks b/c he's doing his rural medicine rotation in milton, and had the day off. we haven't spent a random weekday together since..2002. i am not even kidding.

he asked me why i was dressed like such a hipster, and of course made fun of me even more when random strangers at the mall wanted to know where i'd purchased my glasses. i blame the converse sneaks, but the graphic print leggings and american apparel tee didn't help things.1 and um yea, the retro glasses, lawl.

anyway! we ended up spending quality time together, visited the mall for a bit, and then read at the chapters2 by my house for a good 2 hours, hee. he was busy with warriors, the latest "dunk and egg" tale by [info]grrm, while i read half of suzanne colin's catching fire, the follow-up to her debut novel, hunger games. i was really enjoying it, and had to stop right as i reached a major plot twist. getting it from the library is just going to take too much time, so i guess i'd better go back to chapters and finish it soon [for those of you who might've missed it, here's my review of hunger games].

alright. i'mma watch the american idol results now, then catch up on tonight's eps of criminal minds and antm. for anyone on the flist watching this cycle of antm, who're your fave chica?

and last but not least, joe jonas? as a dancer, i REALLY appreciate this picture b/c i know how freaking difficult it is to stay in that position for a long while. also, it's putting incredibly inappropriate thoughts in my head [lulz, what else is new?]

1 the weather was fantastic, mmkay? i'm canadian; i wasn't going to miss out on random 20°C mid-march weather!

2 i couldn't escape disney at the mall OR the bookstore. they were playing "burnin' up" at wal-mart, and while i was looking for a spot for theredhandthe bf and myself at chapters, i saw the camp rock board game and a sonny with a chance book. rofl.

[i]kudra: can i get a

So apparently walking out of an office where you're being screamed at is construed as quitting. Even when you call the district manager before leaving the property to state specifically that you aren't quitting your job, but leaving an unsafe situation. Even when you've worked every weekend and every thanksgiving, christmas eve, christmas, new years eve, memorial day, fourth of july, labor day and your birthday for the last three years. There aren't fierce enough expletives for this situation.

[i]cuddlycthulhu: Ugh.

Had a dream where I was inexplicably bitten by a cobra in a college chemistry lab and spent the rest of the dream futilely trying to get to an ambulance or hospital while my tongue swelled up. Don't ask, I have no idea where it came from but it was singularly unpleasant. I only realized it was a dream and woke myself up at around 4:30 in the morning. The dreams that came after weren't that much better.

As a result the Ren Drone is currently functioning on half power and not yet up to speed this morning. Please, carry on.

[i]annakey: Happy Paddy's Day!

It's not Paddy's day today (even though it is). He's laid up and miserable and can't even stomach the cheesiest cheese toastie I've ever made. I blame the stinky ferrets he plays with at nursery (I'm not being derogatory about other people's children here, they actually have pet ferrets there). He's caught ferret flu.

[i]cuddlycthulhu: Politics: Two! Two points of stupid, ah ha ha!

Perhaps struggling for a reason behind why Democrats would want the health care bill to pass Rep. Louie Gohmert declared that "demons" - yes, demons - have invaded the capital (and likely the souls of Democrats), forcing lawmakers to mislead the public about the content of the health care bill.

Challenging this as the most stupid thing said by a politician that I found out about today, we have J.D. Hayworth trying to tell people that the SSM bill in Massachusetts is wrong and could lead to hot man-on-horse action.

Take a wild guess at the political party of these two.
